Sapna and Katie take on one of the most controversial and enduring myths in modern medicine: the belief that vaccines cause autism. Tracing the story back to a now-retracted 1998 study, they examine how a small, fraudulent paper by Andrew Wakefield spiraled into global fear, influenced parenting choices, and fueled vaccine hesitancy. Along the way, they break down why the myth took hold, from the timing of early autism symptoms to the power of media narratives, and share the overwhelming scientific evidence showing no link between vaccines and autism. Together, Sapna and Katie highlight what research actually tells us about autism’s roots, the real risks of undervaccination, and how trust, empathy, and clear communication can help communities move beyond misinformation.
